Photo of the day: At the top of the Clear Creek Trail, there is a spot called "Five Valleys View." I think maybe I've got them labeled properly in this photo, but don't ask me to name 'em all - I'm nowhere near good enough at geography for that. We shared our rest stop with a little bluebelly (western fence lizard) who didn't seem in the least bothered or impressed by our presence. CVTA is currently searching for #volunteers to hel

CVTA is currently searching for #volunteers to help station our trails during the month of May. We are hoping to fill shifts of 2hrs (9:00-11:00,11:00-1:00 or 1:00-3:00) (but anything helps!) on Saturdays and Sundays so that people participating in the #CVTABINGOCHALLENGE are able to get some applicable squares marked off their bingo cards. It is a great chance to get outside and meet some like-minded trail users, all while helping out the organization. Please message for more details if interested!

Get ready for the CVTA Trail Bingo Challenge!!!

During the entire month of May 2021, we at the Carson Valley Trails Association are pleased to announce the first ever CVTA Trail Bingo Challenge! This challenge will be a fun and exciting way to get out with friends and family to enjoy the amazing sights and sounds of the Carson Valley trail network, while gaining useful insight into the mission, accomplishments, and the future plans of the CVTA. You can hike, run, or ride your way to a win and no matter how you decide to play, the prizes (besides enjoying the great scenery and physical activity) will be amazing!

Join the event by joining the CVTA Trail Bingo Challenge Club (https://www.strava.com/clubs/588440) on the free Strava app.

Post pictures of your bingo activities on Facebook and/or Instagram using the hashtag #CVTABingoChallenge to start blocking out those squares!

It’s that simple! From there, the basic rules of bingo will apply. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place of any 5-square Bingo, 4 Corners, and for any Blackouts.

**Prize winners will need to have GPS tracking and/or photos of all activities to be considered eligible and will need to either notify us by email socialmedia@carsonvalleytrails.org or message us on Social Media.**

(It’s possible to capture more than one square with a single activity so keep an eye on your board!)

Friends and Neighbors, April is Earth Month 202

Friends and Neighbors,

April is Earth Month 2021 and @pureglow_aveda is raffling off a basket full of Aveda products worth $300 to support the Carson Valley Trails Association! If you don't have an appointment this month, please feel free to stop by and purchase some raffle tickets, which are a dollar each or seven for five dollars. All proceeds will go directly to the CVTA. The winning ticket will be drawn on May 1st. Need not be present to win.

Did you know... 🤔
between the months of April and October rattle snakes like to enjoy the warmth, sunshine and trails too? 🐍

Make sure you don’t get too distracted by the views and keep a lookout! They blend in!

More safety tips so you can enjoy the outdoors safely:
* Find a different trail shoe than sandals!
* Do not step or put your hands where you cannot see... like logs or rocks
* Respect the snakes and leave them alone
* Leash your furry friends 🐶

It's time we had a talk about your manners.... Mountain Manners that is!

Like all parents, Mother Nature Loves good manners! Everyone knows the Golden Rule "Take only photos; leave only footprints" but here are a few other Mountain Manners etiquette tips to help protect the Eastern Sierra:

MANNER #1: Follow the Beaten Path
Straying from designated paths can cause harmful erosion, and damage fragile plants, so we ask you to take the road most traveled. (with apologies to Robert Frost).

MANNER #2: Scoop the Poop
Your #2 is becoming our #1 issue. If it's your pet's, please bag it and take it out to a trash can! If it's your own, bury it in a cat-hole at least 6-8 inches deep or better yet, pack it out.

MANNER #3: Gather up Garbage
Even if it's not yours, please pack out litter! Nothing makes Mother Nature happier. Remember, food scraps are litter, too. Even if food is considered "biodegradable," no one wants to see your orange peels lying around - and human food is unhealthy for wildlife.

MANNER #4: Don't Feed The Bears
Or deer, birds, chipmunks, etc. Please keep yourself - and your food - out of the reach of wildlife. Store all food in bear boxes or bear-proof containers, NOT in your vehicle.

MANNER #5: Remove Fishing Line and Hooks
Fishing hooks and tangled line are dangerous to wild animals, birds, fish, pets and kids. Please remove this litter from water and shoreline and pack it out.

MANNER #6: Keep Invasive Species Out
Take all steps to keep invasive species from spreading and destroying out lakes, streams, rivers and meadows.

MANNER #7: Don't Pick The Flowers!
It's no easy task to blossom and survive in challenging alpine conditions - wildflowers work hard to grow! Please don't disturb or remove plants, rocks or artifacts. Their home is right where you found them. Always stay on trail and never destroy or walk on vegetation.

MANNER #8: Social Media Do's and Don'ts
Keep wild places wild and don't geo-tag your Instagram Photo! Special places can be destroyed by Insta-fame. Remember that people may want to get the same photo as you - be sure your pics are taken from a safe place and do not show dangerous acts.

We wanted to extend a big thank you to @anneliz281 for all of her years of dedication to the Carson Valley TrailsAssociation. As many of you know, she has been the editor of the CVTA Newsletter for many many years but has recently decided to begin a well-deserved retirement from doing so. She has been absolutely amazing to work with and an inspiration to us all. We wish her nothing but the best in her new endeavors and wanted her to know that her shoes will be very hard to fill. We appreciate all that you have done. Thank you from us all!
