As part of the Slow and Say Hello safety campaign Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) and the Douglas County Mounted Posse (DCMP) are offering a workshop to familiarize mountain bike riders with horses, teach them how and why horses may react to mountain bikes and demonstrate safe techniques for approaching and passing people on horses and hikers on trails. This event is free and open to all mountain bikers, hikers, and others interested in trail safety. It will be appropriate for all ages.
Participants will hear CVTA and DCMP members explain and show various horse behaviors and those who bring their mountain bikes can participate in a demonstration. There will be opportunities to touch and possibly ride a horse.
Required safety equipment: Please wear good shoes, no sandals, and bring your helmet if you will ride a bike or a horse at the event.
Recommended: Bring your bike. Bring a chair, snacks, and water with you. Remember your sunscreen.
